LOOK, look, look


So exciting I have managed to upload some photos, lets hope it is a repeatable experience.
We took a short trip to Marrakesh, skeins of wool dyed with natural colours hanging up in the souk.
I discovered a new yarn while I was there, cactus silk which is made from the Aloe Vera plant, what a useful plant it is. Its has a very lustrous finish and weaves up beautifully. Apparently Morocco is one of the few countries that produces it. Seems to me it ought to be more widely produced it doesn't seem to have any drawbacks, doesn't need fertilisers or pesticides and regrows really fast.

      Grace try this link, there is quite a lot online about it. Unfortunately I didn't track down any to buy there were just samples in the shops that sold scarves made from it. We did see some haberdashery shops as well but didn't really have time to visit.

      Trying to explain to anybody where you are in the souk is a challenge but it is in Souq Sebbaghine approx North of the Central Souqs. If you get Pocket Marrakesh by Lonely Planet its on page 42. As I have said above I didn't see it for sale. There are however loads of yarns for sale for tassels and embroidery so as you are aware of it before you get there you may find some for sale. I wasn't looking for it to buy when we were in the sewing bit as I hadn't come across it at that point.

    That sounds really interesting! I'd love to see what you made with it.

    And the view is great too, I don't wish for things to go backwards as such, but walking down a main street here really reminds me how much useless crap we produce, how ugly and soulless many modern things are.

      Yes it was great turning a corner and coming across these, there were also huge amounts of indigo skeins but couldn't get a good image due to the sun.
